ASCP banded together with the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and other medical societies to promote the develop of a Medicaid demonstration project to improve sickle cell disease (SCD) care. In a
joint letter, ASCP, ASH and other medical societies urged congressional sickle cell disease (SCD) champions to introduce legislation to develop a Medicaid demonstration project to improve access to state-of-the-art, high quality outpatient comprehensive care for individuals living with SCD with a focus on young adults. ASCP joined the SCD Coalition earlier this year and has formed a group of experts and organizations (namely AABB and ASH) to explore the development of a national database that would benefit frequently transfused patients, such as those with SCD. ASCP is excited to participate in such endeavors to advance the quality of care for SCD patients.
